We build a mud house

If many small people take many small steps in many small places, they will change the face of the world.

African proverb, author and country unfortunately not known.

Description of the construction

1.)

First we look for a suitable place to build a house.
There the loamy soil is chopped up, loosened and levelled.
Or we simply take a bucket.

2.)

Then we add water to our building material.
We mix a doughy clay paste evenly with our feet.

3.)

With a stick we draw a circle on the floor. This is our floor plan.

4.)

We form balls from the clay paste. We layer the balls on top of each other to create a thick wall.

Then construction stop !

The building must dry in the sun for at least 2 days. Then you can repair the wall – and let it dry again for 2 days.

5.)

When the circular wall is finished, we knock out a door opening.

6.)

For the roof we will put up a wooden scaffolding made of poles. Cross beams are tied to it with cords.
In this way a tent roof is created.

We cover the roof with dried grass tufts. In this way the inhabitants are protected from sun and rain.

7.)

Then we paint it.

8.)

Now the people can move in…

Have fun playing 🙂

If you don’t have any mud, you can also use paper. The cut model on the next page.
