The Primary School in Kounoune

Kounoune primary school was founded in 1960.

It is located in the village of Kounoune and consists of 2 schools:

  • Kounoune 1
with 676 pupils, 16 teachers and 12 classrooms.
  • Kounoune 2
with 210 pupils, 8 teachers and 6 classrooms.

Classes are held from Monday to Friday from 8 am to 1 pm.

On Tuesday and Thursday, the children return to school in the afternoon, for 3 hours, from 3-5pm.

10 is the best grade, with a grade of 4 one can repeat the class.

Parents pay a contribution of 3000 CFA (6 Euros) per year for each child.

With this money, the school buys cleaning materials, papers, chalk, etc.

The school has a computer room that does not work because of a lack of internet connection.

So children can not get computer science courses.

Sports, culture, brain games, environment… Many activities are organized in the school

In order to give the children a new vision of the world, the principals inside would like to have a School partnership.

The water pump

The school strives for sustainability and also has a garden with different plants.

A solar pump waters the green garden and ensures that the toilets are supplied with water.

During recess, children play next to the solar pump and sometimes damage it. However, the culprit is never found and high repair costs are incurred.

In addition, villagers look for water in the school….

The electric company has donated the pump to the school and sometimes takes care of troubleshooting.

Film: Who broke the water pump?

I have a Right to a toilet!

In the picture you can see the toilet block of Kounoune primary school.
This block is used by all pupils.
But there is no privacy.
The pupils avoid using the toilets. This is not good for their health. It can lead to urination problems, especially for little girls.
The toilet blocks at Kounoune Primary School are to be renovated so that the children can feel comfortable.
And YOU can support the toilet construction.

Our Associate

Good day to all!

My name is Thierno Ousmane Sow. I am a German teacher in Senegal.

I am very active in community development in my village of Kounoune, where I volunteer as the executive secretary of the health post of my village, as the coordinator of the citizens’ movement “Debout Koune” and as a member of GNG-SENEGAL.

Through my contact with Sonja Prinz of GNG BERLIN, I was able to participate in activities in Berlin with the members of the German association.

I like her way of working and I am committed to the goals of Global New Generation.

Thank you very much!
