Mane is a member of the Balanta ethnic group.
Sadio Mané’s football career began on 25 May 2012, when he played for the Senegalese national team against Morocco.
He scored his first goal against Liberia in June 2012.
He took part in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London with Senegal, making four appearances.
At the 2015 African Championship, Mané was called up for the Senegal squad and made two appearances as his team was eventually eliminated from the tournament with 4 points.
Two years later, at the 2017 African Championship, he was again called up for the squad.
Mané scored in each of the first two group matches against Tunisia and Zimbabwe.
In the quarter-finals, in a 0-0 draw against Cameroon, it went to a penalty shoot-out.
Mané missed the last and decisive penalty, which eliminated Senegal.
